"With a new baby and working part time, how do I find time for
intimate moments with the Lord? I really want that time with
Him, but sometimes it's hard to even get a shower in."
Dear Friend,
Every mother understands your challenge. And so does God.
It isn't that He doesn't love us when we haven't spent time with
Him; but because He created us for fellowship with Him, I think He
misses us. If we prioritize our day according to our purpose,
then intimacy with Him would be first, and family and jobs would
follow. However, sometimes babies need extra attention, jobs
demand overtime, dirty laundry piles higher and higher and there is
never, ever enough sleep. In these circumstances, God does not
require a prayer marathon or the digesting of Isaiah (help!)
When we consider that each day holds 1,440 minutes, then 10 minutes
of our undivided attention seems pretty doable. I emphasis
"undivided" because we are such chronic multi-taskers. Morning
is a perfect time with Him because it starts the day off so right.
Set the alarm 10 minutes earlier, splash the face with cold water
and read the Bible for 5 minutes. Then express your love and
thanksgiving to Him, commit your day to Him and share your heart
until the baby wakes up or the job beckons. He will be right
there listening to every word. When Jesus said in Matthew
6:33, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously,
and He will give you everything you need," He really meant it.
He not only supplies your needs, but guides and directs your day so
that you are able to accomplish so much more than you would have had
you not put Him first. His presence is like a sweet fragrance
that will go before you all day long. I don't intend to sound
insensitive to your situation but throughout my life I've tried it
both ways, and daily fellowship with him, whether 10 minutes or an
hour, always wins! My prayers for you, dear one, as you pursue
His presence.
